PREVENTATIVE DENTISTRY

Cleanings: removal of tartar and plaque build up from above and below the gum line. Routine cleanings (every 6 months), in addition to proper home care, help prevent periodontal disease and gingivitis.

Digital Radiographs: digital sensors are used to capture images of the teeth, instead of traditional film.

Sealants: thin, resin coating that can be placed on the biting surfaces of back teeth to help prevent cavities.

Fluoride Treatment: a supplement, usually a liquid or paste, that is applied topically to teeth to help prevent tooth decay.

RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY

Crowns: tooth shaped covering that is placed over a tooth to reinforce and strengthen it. They are also commonly used to enhance the appearance of teeth. May also be referred to as a "cap."

Composite Fillings (tooth colored fillings): restoring a tooth's function and shape by removing decay and filling in the tooth with a tooth-colored mixture of plastic and glass.

Bridges: a fixed dental restoration that fills in gaps, created by missing teeth, with fake teeth, often flanked by crowns.

Whitening: lightens teeth and helps remove stain and discoloration.*

Extractions:removal of a tooth.

Porcelain Veneers: thin, custom made shells of tooth colored material designed to cover the front surface of a tooth, changing the color, shape, size or length of a tooth.

Bonding: tooth colored material placed on a tooth to improve a tooth's appearance.

Partial Dentures: a removable appliance used to replace missing teeth while natural teeth still exist in the mouth.

Full Dentures: a removable appliance used to replace all teeth in the mouth when natural teeth are missing.
